AL-05 is a northern district in Alabama. It is 65.53% urban and includes the counties of Lauderdale, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, and a large part of Jackson. It has a population of 683,273, and 88.36% of the population is white. The district has voted for the Republican party in recent congressional and presidential elections and has not supported a Democrat for president since 1984. 

The candidates running in this district are Peter Joffrion and Mo Brooks. Joffrion is the Democratic candidate and ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. He previously worked as a City Attorney for 22 years. Brooks is the Republican incumbent who was first elected to the House in 2010. He was a 2017 special election candidate for election to the U.S. Senate. He also served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1982 to 1992.
