Alaska’s first congressional district represents the entire state. The most populous cities are Anchorage and Juneau. Besides these cities, the state is mostly rural. Democrat Alyse Gavin and Republican Incumbent Don Young are running for the seat. Young has already served 23 terms in office making him the longest serving member currently in Congress. He seeks to develop plans for Alaska’s future in energy, defense, and education. Galvin has worked odd jobs throughout her life, recently finding stability as a substitute teacher and businesswoman. Her goals are to provide universal healthcare and bolster the quality of public education.
