Located in the southwestern part of the state, this district runs along most of the Arizona-Mexico border and includes the western third of Tucson. 61.6% of this district’s population is Hispanic. This district has been a Democratic stronghold since 2012 when the former 7th district was relabeled as Arizona’s 3rd. Democratic incumbent, Raúl Grijalva, has been serving as the congressman for this area since 2003 and has a reputation for being one of the most liberal representatives in the country. His Republican opponent, Nicolas Pierson, is of Mexican descent and is a former financial advisor; he emphasizes the importance of creating more jobs.
