This district contains the northeastern suburbs of Phoenix, including Scottsdale and Paradise Valley. It has the highest median household income of any Arizona district and is also the most educated district in the state with 44% of the population over the age of 25 holding a Bachelor’s degree. This district has been represented by a Republican since the districts were redrawn after the 2010 Census. Republican incumbent David Schweikert supports gun rights and is anti-abortion but also supports some legalization of cannabis. His Democratic opponent is Anita Malik, who works in technology and communications. Her campaign platform emphasizes job creation and she supports a single-payer health-care system.
