Arizona’s eighth district contains much of the suburbs South of Phoenix. Since redistricting in 2012, Republicans have won each election in the eighth district. This election features a rematch between Republican Congresswoman Debbie Lasko and Democrat Hiral Tipirneni. Congresswoman Lasko, who is pro-life, supports lower taxes, and opposes changes to gun laws, defeated Tipirneni 52.6% to 47.4% in a special election on April 24, 2018, after former Republican Congressman Trent Frank resigned. Tipirneni believes that Americans should have the right to buy guns but believes in stricter gun measures and that Americans should have a public health insurance option.
