District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.

California’s 27th district covers the area of the San Gabriel Foothills and the many small communities there. It has been represented by Democrat Judy Chu since 2013; prior to redistricting, she represented the 32nd district from 2009 to 2013 and was the first Chinese-American woman to be elected to the House. She is being challenged by fellow Democrat Bryan Witt, who is running on a platform to the left of Chu. In this district, Obama received 64.1% of the two-party vote in 2012, Chu received 59.4% of the two-party vote in 2014, Clinton received 69.9% of the two-party vote in 2015, and Chu received 67.4% of the two-party vote in 2016. There is no polling for this race at this time. Our methodology assumes that a Democrat is running against a Republican, so our prediction of Democratic two-party vote share will be pretty meaningless for this race. A better predictor is the jungle primary, in which Chu and Witt were the only two candidates and Chu received 83.5% of the vote.
