California’s 29th district covers the north-central area of the San Fernando Valley and the communities of Van Nuys, San Fernando, Panorama City, and others. It has been represented by Democrat Tony Cardenas since 2013. Cardenas previously served on the Los Angeles City Council. He is being challenged by Republican Benito Bernal, who is a former Vice President of the Service Employees International Union. In this district, Obama received 79.0% of the two-party vote in 2012, Cardenas received 74.6% of the two-party vote in 2014, and Clinton received 82.2% of the two-party vote in 2015. Cardenas’s general election opponent in 2016 was another Democrat; the total two-party vote that Democrats got in the jungle primary was 77.25%.
