California’s 30th district covers the western San Fernando Valley and the eastern Simi Hills in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, respectively. It has been represented by Democrat Brad Sherman since 2013, and has not been represented by a Republican since 1963 (although the exact location of the 30th district has changed due to redistricting). Sherman previously represented the 24th district from 1997 to 2003 and the 27th district from 2003 to 2013. He is being challenged by Republican Mark Reed. Reed previously ran against Sherman in 2010 in the 27th District and describes himself as an “actor, small businessman, randcher, and advocate for constitutional government.” In this district, Obama received 67.0% of the two-party vote in 2012, Sherman received 65.6% of the two-party vote in 2014, Clinton received 72.9% of the two-party vote in 2015, and Sherman received 72.6% of the two-party vote in 2016.
