California’s 32nd district covers eastern Los Angeles County and the municipalities of El Monte, Monterey Park, West Covina, and Glendora. It has been represented by Democrat Grace Napolitano since 2013; prior to redistricting, Napolitano represented the 34th and 38th districts since 1999. Prior to entering Congress, Napolitano served in the California Assembly; she is currently a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Her opponent in the General Election is Republican Joshua Scott, who was the second-place finisher in the primary with 42 votes as write-in candidate. Scott is the youngest general election congressional candidate in the country and says the purpose of his campaign is “to provide the citizens of California’s 32nd district with a choice.” In this district, Obama received 66.7% of the two-party vote in 2012, Napolitano received 59.7% of the two-party vote in 2014, and Clinton received 70.6% of the two-party vote in 2015. Napolitano’s general election opponent in 2016 was another Democrat; the total two-party vote that Democrats got in the jungle primary was 76.1%.
