California’s 33rd district covers parts of western Los Angeles County, including a small portion of Los Angeles and the northwestern area of the county. It has been represented by Democrat Ted Lieu since 2015; he replaced fellow democrat Henry Waxman, who represented this district for 40 years. Col. Lieu is an Air Force veteran and former California State Assemblyman and Senator, and is currently an assistant Democratic Whip in the House. He is being challenged by Dr. Kenneth Wright, a pediatric ophthalmologist who grew up in the district. In this district, Obama received 62.2% of the two-party vote in 2012, Lieu received 58.3% of the two-party vote in 2014, Clinton received 71.9% of the two-party vote in 2015, and Lieu received 66.4% of the two-party vote in 2016.
