Centered in Los Angeles County, which includes the City of Los Angeles and neighborhoods in Central, East, and North-East Los Angeles. California 34 is currently represented by Democrat Jimmy Gomez, who took over from the previous representative, Democrat Xavier Becerra when he resigned to become the Attorney General of California. Gomez served as the California Assembly Majority Whip from 2013 to 2014 and is the current political director for the United Nurses Associations of California. He is running against Green Party Candidate Kenneth Mejia, an accountant and community organizer for the LA Tenants Union.
