Located in eastern Riverside County, California 36 includes most of the desert regions, including Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indio, Coachella, Rancho Mirage, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, and Cathedral City. CA-36 has been represented by Democrat Raul Ruiz since 2013. Prior to his time in Congress, Ruiz served as the Associate Dean of the University of California Riverside School of Medicine from 2011-2012. He is running against Republican Kimberlin Brown Pelzer, the featured speaker at the Republican National Convention in 2016. The election results from CA-36 has always leaned Democrat. In 2012, Obama won the two-party vote with 51.63% of the two-party vote. In 2014, Ruiz won 54.2% of the two-party vote. And in 2016, Clinton won 54.66% of the two-party vote and Ruiz won 62.1% of the two-party vote.
