This district is based in covers several cities in Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley, which includes the cities such as  Artesia, La Palma, and Cerritos. CA-38 has been represented by Democrat Linda Sanchez since 2013. She started her political career in 2003 as the US Representative for California 39. During her time in office, she has served on the Committee on Ways and Means (2013-present), the Ethics Committee (2011-2016), the Judiciary Committee (2011-2012), and the Veterans’ Affairs Committee (2011-2012). Sanchez is running against Republican Ryan Downing, who started political consulting in 2013. In 2012, Obama won 66.29% of the two party vote; in 2014, Sanchez won 59.10% of the two party vote; and in 2016, Clinton won 70.97% of the two-party vote while Sanchez won 70.5% of the two-party vote.
