California  40 encompasses western Riverside County. CA-40 has been represented by Democrat Mark Takano since 2013. Currently, Takano also serves on the Riverside Community College District Board of trustees and as a Teacher at Rialto Unified School District. Takano is running against Republican Aja Smith, a US Air Force Veteran. In the past, CA-40 has leaned Democratic. In 2012, Obama won 62.88% of the two-party vote; in 2014, Takano won 56.6% of the two-party vote; and in 2016, Clinton won 64.89% while Takano won 65% of the two-party vote.
