California 42 is within Riverside County and includes the communities of Corona, Lake Elsinore, and Murrieta. CA-42 has been represented by Republican Ken Calvert has served in the House since 1993, representing CA-43 (1993-2003), CA-44 (2003-2013), and CA-42 (2013-present). Prior to his time in office, Calvert served as the Chair of Riverside County’s Republican Party. Calvert is running against Democrat Julia Peacock, a public school teacher. In this district, Obama won 42.29% of the two-party vote in 2012, Democrat Tim Sheridan won 34.3% of the two party vote in 2014, and Clinton won 43.67% of the two-party vote in the 2016 presidential race, while Sheridan won 41.2% of the two-party vote for the House race in 2016.
