From 2003 through 2013, this district didn't include much of San Diego's northern and eastern suburbs, including Lakeside, Poway, Ramona, La Mesa, Alpine Winter Gardens, Borrego Springs and Spring Valley. Due to redistricting after in 2010, much of this area is now part of the 50th District. The candidates are Republican incumbent Duncan Hunter and Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar. In 2012, Obama won 36.7% of the vote. In 2014, Hunter won with 71% of the vote, then again in 2016 with 56.5% of the vote.
