Connecticut's second congressional district contains the entirety of the eastern portion of the state. It’s principal cities are Norwich and New London. The district has a significant portion of coastline along the Long Island Sound. The total Population is 705,217, the median age is 42.6, the population is 85.82% white and the unemployment rate is 4.6%. The median and mean household incomes are $73,805 and $96,617 respectively. The district has switched between Democratic and Republican representation within the past two decades but has been represented by Democrat Joe Courtney since 2006. Courtney won the 2016 election with 63% of the votes. Courtney is running for reelection against Republican challenger Dan Postemski.
