Connecticut’s fifth congressional district contains the north west portion of the state and has more rural area than any of the other four districts. The total population is  718,295 and the median age is 42.2.The population is 78.96% white, the unemployment rate is 5.9% and the median and mean household incomes are $71,995 and $99,234 respectively. In recent elections the district has gone to the Democrats. It is the only district in Connecticut without an incumbent running for this election, however, The district went to  Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a margin of 4.1 points and Elizabeth Etsy the former representative for this district took 58% of the vote share in 2016.
