District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.

This district stretches from the city of Ocala to the city of Spring Hill. Included within is the large retirement community The Villages, which is a tremendous boon to Republican candidates. The land is about 3/4 urban and 1/4 rural, and the population is about 87% white. The Cook rating is R+15, and the district has a history of strong Republican victories since 2012, though before that Democratic candidates won the congressional races consistently.

The incumbent is Republican Daniel Webster (R), who has previously represented the 10th and 8th districts, having been a member of Congress since 2010. He is an advocate for homeschooling, concealed carry, and tax cuts, and he opposes same-sex marriage, legalization of marijuana in any situation, and rights to abortions. His challenger is Democrat Dana Cottrell (D), who emphasizes the issues of affordable health care, fair taxation, and the environment.
