District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.

This district is made up of portions of both Broward County and Palm Beach County along Florida’s southeastern coast. Palm Beach’s reputation as a prominent retirement community gives this district a significant older population. The district is 82.4% white and 20.9% Hispanic. Ted Deutch (D) has been Florida 22nd’s congressman since he was redistricted from Florida 21 in January 2017. After the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in this district, Ted Deutch’s platform began to heavily prioritize gun control. Addressing climate change is also one of Deutch’s priorities. His opponent, Nicolas Kimaz (R) hopes to restore old American values and faith in the American dream with his “Heal America Now” campaign. Kimaz immigrated to the United States as a teenager from Lebanon in 1978 to flee the civil war going on in his country. Obama won with 56.7% of the vote in 2012 and Hillary won with 58.01% of the vote in 2016.
