District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.

Florida's seventh district lies in the North-central part of the state and includes much of downtown Orlando, as well as suburbs Maitland and Winter Park. It's also home to the University of Central Florida, and is predominantly urban and suburban. The Cook partisan rating for the district is even, meaning it is a crucial swing district. It went very narrowly for Clinton in 2016. The Democratic candidate is incumbent Stephanie Murphy (D), elected in 2016, and the first Vietnamese American woman and second Vietnamese American ever to be elected to congress. She is a strong supporter of gun control and co-sponsor of the DREAM Act. The Republican challenger is Mike Miller (R), a current member of the Florida House of Representatives, and a conservative who espouses support for family values and a balanced budget. He is known for pursuing non-partisan objectives of combatting veteran homelessness and human trafficking.
