District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.
Georgia’s first congressional district contains the southeast corner of the state, including the state’s entire coastline and the city of Savannah. The district is mostly rural, with a mostly-white populus of 734,172 (as of 2016). The district is a solid Republican district, with conservative incumbent Earl “Buddy” Carter having won with about 60% of the vote in 2014 (he was uncontested in 2016) and his Republican predecessor having won with a similar percentage in 2012. This year, he is running against Democrat Lisa Ring, but the district is expected to remain solidly Republican.
