District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.

Georgia’s third congressional district is located along the western edge of the state, just north of the second district, with its east end containing some portions of the western Atlanta metropolitan area. The district is considered more urban than rural, but much of its ‘urban’ area would be more accurately described as suburbs; the district does contain the sizeable Peachtree City and Newnan. Contrasting with its southern and eastern neighbors, however, the district is almost 70% white (total population: 729,810 as of 2016) and has most recently leaned Republican. However, during the previous decade, the district had both Democrat and Republican representatives at different times. This decade, the district has remained solidly Republican, with previous representative Lynn Westmoreland running twice unopposed and current Republican incumbent Drew Ferguson, a staunch conservative, having won his first election by about 7 percentage points. Opposing him this year is Democrat Chuck Enderlin. The district is expected to remain solidly Republican.
