District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.
Georgia’s fifth congressional district is a geographically small district that is made up of nearly the entire city of Atlanta and a few southern suburbs. The population of 747,809 (as of 2016) is nearly 58% black, making this a minority-majority district. The district has remained solidly Democrat, with incumbent John Lewis having decisively won every election since 2000 with at least 70% of the vote. This will be the third time he has run unopposed during this span.
