District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.

Georgia’s sixth congressional district is a geographically small district that contains northern Atlanta and many northern suburbs. The population of 756,004 (as of 2016) is over 60% white. The district has been solidly Republican, but some projections show this year’s race to be notably closer than previous, although still favoring Republican incumbent Karen Handel. Handel is a conservative and Trump-backer, who won a 2017 special election by a slim 4% margin. However, she is also seeing significant push-back this year from liberal opponent Lucy McBath, whose stances almost completely oppose those of Handel. The district is expected to lean Republican, although turnover is not entirely improbable here.
