Hawaii’s first district is enclosed on the island of Oahu. It is the US’ only majority Asian district and has urban areas of Honolulu as well as plains and shores of Oahu. It is approximately 99.27% urban and 18.8% White, 2.0% Black, 54.3% Asian, 5.4% Hispanic, 0.2% Native American, and 7.8% other. This district has usually been democratic with a Republican representative only once in the past 20 years. This year, the Democratic candidate is Ed Case, a people’s person. His campaign is all about including everyone in the government, and ensuring the government is working for the people. This includes fulfilling promises towards veterans the elderly, as well as ensuring all americans, including immigrants, have basic rights and representation in government. Opposing Ed Case in this election is Republican candidate Cam Cavasso, a social conservative who believes in individuals being better at solving problems than the government is.
