Idaho’s first district is comprised mostly of the Western half of the state, and is a majority-rural district. 84.1% of the population identifies as non-Hispanic white, 25.4% of the population holds a bachelor’s degree or higher, and the median income is $52,199. Republican Raúl Labrador has been the incumbent since 2010 in this overwhelmingly right-leaning district, which has consistently voted Republican since 2000, with the exception of the 2008 congressional election. The two candidates for this district’s open seat are real estate agent Cristina McNeil (D) and former Idaho state senator Russ Fulcher (R).
