Indiana's 2nd congressional district is located in the north of the state. It contains the city of South Bend, and about three quarters of its population live in urban areas. Though this district has voted for Democrats in the past, having narrowly voted for Obama in 2008, in recent years it has become solidly Republican: in 2016 it voted for Trump by a margin of 23 points, up from a margin of 14 points for Romney in 2012. Though some of the shift in 2016 towards Trump may be due to the fact that former Indiana governor Mike Pence was Trump's running mate, it is still possible that the district has recently shifted to the right.

Three-term Republican incumbent Jacky Walorski is running for reelection against Democratic challenger Mel Hall, a businessman.
