Iowa’s first congressional district is located in the northeastern part of the state. It is 66% urban and 93% white non hispanic. 
This district went for Obama in 2012 and Trump in 2016. The republicans have only controlled the house since 2014, having one by a margin of 2.3% in 2014 and 7.6% in 2016.
The Democratic candidate is challenger Abby Finkenauer; a member of the Iowa house of representatives. Finkenauer supports rebuilding America’s infrastructure, increasing access to affordable healthcare, and fighting for working families. 
The Republican incumbent is Rob Blum. Blum is a two time incumbent running for his third term. Blum identifies as a Tea Party Republican.
