Kentucky 3rd is completely contained within Jefferson County, and is 99.33% urban urban 0.67% rural. The race makeup is 71.65% White, 22.06% Black, 2.71% Asian, 5.13% Hispanic, and 0.2% Native American. This district was similar to the other districts in Kentucky, being mainly Republican, but swung in 2006 where the district elected a Democratic candidate and has had Democratic representation ever since. Democratic incumbent John Yarmuth has been this district’s representative since 2006, and is running against Republican candidate Vickie Yates Glisson. Yarmuth endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential Election, and has voted on domestic issues such as healthcare and abortion, economic issues, as well as foreign policy and defense. Glisson has experience as a health insurance lawyer as well as secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
