Louisiana’s third congressional district covers all of the southwestern area of the state,from the Texas border to the Atchafalaya River.  It’s 73% urban with a population of 785,686. 70% of the population is white and 25% is black, with the median income residing at $44,668.

There are multiple Republican and Democrat candidates. The Republican candidates are Clay Higgins and Josh Guillory, while the Democratic candidates are Mimi Methvin, Rob Anderson, Larry Rader, and Verone Thomas. The candidates are with the most support however are Mimi Methvin (D) and Clay Higgins (R). Mimi Methvin is an ex U.S. Magistrate Judge and is strict on taking no money from corporations or PAC’s. She also stands for coastal protection, universal healthcare and anti-opioid efforts. Clay Higgins is the incumbent, and is pro-life, pro-fossil fuels, and pro-border wall. In 2012, Obama won 32.83% of the two party vote during the presidential election, Democrats won 0% of the two-party vote in 2014, Clinton won 30.26% of the two-party vote in 2016 and Dorian Phibian won only 8.9% of the two-party vote in 2016.
