Massachusetts’ first congressional district is the largest district. It is the most rural district, encompassing the western part of the state and all of Berkshire county and Mount Greylock. The district has been consistently Democratic for the past 20 years. Since 1991, Democratic congressmen have represented the district. In the past two presidential elections, the district has voted for the Democratic candidate, with Democrats receiving 64.1% in 2008, 64.0% in 2012, and 57.2% in 2016. The uncontested candidate is Richard Neal (D), who has been the incumbent since 2012. He is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and is the Dean of Massachusetts' Congressional Delegation.
