Massachusetts’ second congressional district is in the center of the state. Notable cities in this district include Worcester, Northampton, and Amherst. Since 1949, this state has been represented by Democratic representatives. In the past three presidential elections, the Democratic candidate received the majority vote, with Democrats receiving 60.4% in 2008, 58.7% in 2012, and 56.2% in 2016. The extremely liberal candidate, James “Jim”  McGovern (D), is a Worcester native and has represented this district since 1996 (before redistricting in 2013, most of MA-02 was labeled as district 3.) Tracy Lovvorn (R) is the Republican candidate, and is a physical therapist who founded and owns the outpatient clinic Evolution Physical Therapy.
