Massachusetts’ fourth congressional district is located in the southern part of the state, extending to the Rhode Island border. The district has voted for Democratic representatives since 1947. The Democratic candidate received the majority vote in the past three presidential elections, with Democrats receiving 60.4% in 2008, 57.2% in 2012, and 59.2% in 2016. Joseph Kennedy III (D), the incumbent since 2013, is the only candidate running for the House of Representatives. Kennedy comes from a family of politicians and is the grand-nephew of John F. Kennedy. He served in the Peace Corps and as an assistant district attorney before running for office.
