Massachusetts’ ninth district is the southeasternmost district of the state and contains all of Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket counties and some of Bristol and Plymouth counties. Since 1963, the district has voted for members of the Democratic party in the House elections. The Democratic presidential candidate received the majority vote in the past three elections, with Democrats receiving 57.8% in 2008, 55.5% in 2012, and 52.5% in 2016. Incumbent Bill Keating (D) has served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, as a state Senator, and as a district attorney. He has represented Massachusetts in the U.S. House since 2011. His opponent, Peter Tedeschi (R), is the CEO of Tedeschi Food Shops, is on the Executive Board of Directors of Friendship Home and Lil’ Drug Store Products, is a member of the Coca-Cola Retail Council, and serves on the Board of Advisors for the North & South River Watershed Association.
