Michigan’s fourteenth district is in the southeastern region of the lower peninsula, stretching from Detroit to Farmington Hills and then to Pontiac. The district has voted for Democrats for its entire electoral history with the exception of one Republican representative from 1947 to 1949. The district is very diverse, demographically, with minorities such as Bangladeshi or African Americans making up around 20% of the population each. 53% of the population is "white", with large numbers of Albanians, Yemenis, and Bosnians as sub-groups.

The candidates running in this election are Brenda Lawrence (D) and Marc Herschfus (R). Lawrence previously sought election to the House in 2012 but lost. She was also the 2010 Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor. Herschfus previously ran in 2016 but lost in the primaries. He was also a former candidate for the 46th DC court of Michigan.
