The 6th congressional district includes almost all of Benton, Carver, Sherburne, Steams, Wright, Anoka, and Washington counties. The two candidates running are Ian Todd (D) and Tom Emmer (R). Ian Todd is an Air Force Veteran and is a DFL endorsed candidate. Todd supports providing Medicare for everyone, but advocates for a single payer system. He also supports protecting the environment and labor unions. Tom Emmer became part of the House of Representatives in 2015 and re-elected in 2016. Emmer was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2004 and re-elected in 2006 and 2008. He supports modernizing agriculture, localizing control of education, and working with international institutions. Tom Emmer has been in office since 2014. The Republican candidate in the presidential elections won with at least 50% of the vote since 2000; Mitt Romney won 57% of the vote in 2012 and President Donald Trump won 59% of the vote in 2016.
