The 8th congressional district covers the northeastern portion of Minnesota and includes most of the Mesabi and Vermillion iron ranges. The geographical aspects of this district contribute to its agricultural and mining reputation. The population is 93.7% White and around 662,000 people. The two candidates running are Joe Radinovich (D) and Pete Sauber (R). Radinovich’s main issues include supporting abortion, fighting against climate, and protecting the benefits allowed through Social Security, Medicare, and pensions. Pete Stauber’s main issues include advocating pro-life, supporting legal immigrants, and prioritizing active military members and our veterans. No incumbents from previous years are running again. Although President Trump won 54% of the vote in the 2016 presidential election, the Democratic Candidate has won with at least 50% of the vote from 2004. In 2008 and 2012, Barack Obama won the presidential election with 53% and 52% of the vote, respectively.
