District Profile Last Updated: Oct. 5, 2018, 11:47 a.m.
Missouri’s fifth congressional district consists of the Jackson City-Kansas City metropolitan area. Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D) has been in office since 2005. Cleaver won by a 6.6% margin over his Republican challenger in 2014. Redistricting in 2010 caused this district to switch its rural panhandle with the fourth district’s urban areas, polarizing both districts further. This district has elected Democratic presidents by wide margins since 2000. Marine Corps veteran Jacob Turk (R) has unsuccessfully sought public office several times in Missouri. He will be challenging Cleaver this November.
