Missouri district eight is located in the southeast corner and is primarily rural. It includes a few counties along the Mississippi river. The district has voted for the Republican candidate in the past five presidential elections. Incumbent Jason Smith (Republican) is running against Kathy Ellis (Democrat) and Jonathan Shell (Libertarian). Smith has been in office since 2013. From 2005 unit 2013, Smith also served in the Missouri House of Representatives. Ellis is a psychotherapist and a licensed clinical social worker.
