Nevada’s 3rd congressional district contains Henderson and Clark County - counties South of Las Vegas - and was initially created following the 2000 census to be a battleground district that had equal parts democrats and republicans. Appropriately, the district voted for Obama in both 2008 and 2012, but also for Bush and Trump in 2004 and 2016. For the 2018 house race, there is no incumbent, as representative Jacky Rosen (D) is currently trying her bid at being elected to the U.S. senate. The district went democratic for the 2014 house race and the 2016 election, but republican in the 2016 House election. The democratic candidate is Susie Lee, who earned a masters in management from Carnegie Mellon University. Her opponent is republican Danny Tarkanian, who is a perennial candidate for public office and has failed to win election for the Nevada Senate in 2004, the Nevada Secretary of State in 2006, the U.S. Senate in 2010, the Nevada System of Higher Education in 2014 and the U.S House of Reps. in 2012 and 2016. But hey, 7th time’s the charm...right?
