New York’s 2nd district, located along the south shore of Long Island, is 60% White, 24% Hispanic, and 10% African American. The Republican candidate is incumbent Peter King, former chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security. The Democratic candidate is Liuba Grechen Shirley, a community and business leader. The district has voted Republican in each congressional election since 2012, and voted for Trump in the 2016 election. In fact, Peter King garnered 69.5% and 62.1% of the vote in the 2014 and 2016 house elections, beating the democratic candidate by a huge margin.
