New York’s 8th district encompasses much of Brooklyn and Queens. It is 53% African American, 20% white, and 17% Hispanic. The current representative is Democrat Hakeem Jeffries, an ex-corporate lawyer who has held the office since 2012, and who has been touted as the “Barack Obama of Brooklyn.” He won with over 90% of the vote in both 2012 and 2014. The district has also given Democrats over 80% of the vote in the past 3 presidential elections. There are currently no Republican candidates running for office in this district.
