North Carolina's 11th district is 53.4% rural and 46.6% urban. 86.19% of the population is white (non-hispanic), and 24% have earned a bachelor or higher. The median household income is $43,855. This district has historically been one of the strongest Republican districts in the South, especially because of the redistricting that happened back in 2011. After Heath Shuler (D) retired in 2013, Mark Meadows (R) has been winning. In 2016, Meadows won with 64.1% of the vote. In 2014, Meadows won with 62.9% of the vote. In 2012, Meadows won with a smaller margin of 57.4%. In 2010, Shuler won with a smaller margin of 54.3%. The current candidates are Phillip Price (D) - a small businessman, Christian, and hunter - and incumbent Mark Meadows (R) - head of a real estate development company.
