North Carolina’s fifth congressional district spans the northwestern corner of the state, covering from the Appalachian Mountains to the Piedmont Triad. The majority of the district is mountainous, and also includes the city of Winston-Salem. For the past quarter-century, this district has voted Republican. Republican incumbent Virginia Foxx, the former Secretary of the House Republican Conference, is opposed by Democratic candidate Denise Adams, a council member for the North Ward of Winston-Salem.
