Ohio’s 13th congressional district is a somewhat urban area located in the northern part of Ohio. The district includes sections of Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit, and Trumbull counties. While the district has typically voted strongly democratic, it was one of the pivot districts that voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election after voting for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. Tim Ryan (D) is running against Christopher DePizzo (R). Ryan was born in 1973 in Niles, Ohio, graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science, and earned his Juris Doctor from the Franklin Pierce Law Center. After serving a half term in the Ohio State Senate for two years, he was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002 and has continued serving ever since. Christopher DePizzo was raised in Youngstown, attended Saint Peter’s University as an undergraduate, and graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. Since then, he has worked as an attorney.
