Ohio’s 4th congressional district is a moderately urban district located in Northwestern Ohio, bordering Lake Erie. It includes the Northern suburbs of Columbus, including Lima, Tiffin, and Elyria. Since 2000, a Republican has won every election, usually winning between 55 and 70% of the vote. Since 2006, Jim Jordan has won every election. He is currently running to defend it again. Jordan was born in Urbana, Ohio in 1964 and attended the University of Madison-Wisconsin, earning an economics degree, and Ohio State University, earning a degree in education, and Capital University Law school, earning a Juris Doctor. He was outstanding wrestler in college and defeated a future olympic gold medalist. Jordan was a member of the Ohio General Assembly from 1994 to 2000 and a member of the Ohio Senate from 2000 to 2006. Jordan is a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, the most right-wing faction in the House of Representatives and plans to run for Speaker of the House when the position becomes vacant. Jordan’s opponent Janet Garrett was born in Ohio, and served with the Peace Corps in Micronesia. Garrett is a retired school teacher and union leader whose campaign is focused on protecting workers rights and expanding health care.
