Oklahoma’s first congressional district in located in the northeastern part of the state, adjacent to Kansas. It is 89.63% urban with a population of 753,310. 67.1% of the population is white.


Historically, Oklahoma’s first district has voted  strictly Republican since the late 20th century until present, including the 2016 election. The district is not a swing district.


With former incumbent Jim Bridenstine (R)'s  decision not to run for re-election, there is an open seat. The democratic candidate is Tim Gilpin, a lawyer who served as a Board of Education member for six years and believes strongly in prioritizing education and stricter gun control. The republican candidate is Kevin Hern, a businessman who served in the military and owned several McDonald’s restaurants. His campaign supports maintaining traditional conservative values, reforming healthcare, securing the border, and gun rights.
