Historically, Oklahoma’s fifth district has voted strictly Republican since the late 20th century until present, including the 2016 election. The district is not a swing district.
The democratic candidate is challenger Kendra Horn, an attorney and owner of leadership oriented nonprofit organizations. Her campaign is based on funding education and job training programs, safeguarding Medicare and lowering prescription drug costs, and advocating for equal pay for men and women. The republican incumbent is Steve Russell, a retired war veteran and rifle manufacturer, who believes in improving veteran benefits and strengthening national defense.
