Oregon 5 is in the western part of the state. Its area is slightly larger than district 1’s, as well as district 3’s. The district also contains the state’s capital, Salem. The race makeup is 84.3% white, 2.8% Asian, and 1.0% Native American.


Due to redistricting, Oregon 5 existed since 2010. In 2016, incumbent Kurt Schrader (D) defeated Colm Willis (R) by a margin of 10.5%. In 2014, he was also an incumbent, and he defeated Tootie Smith (R) by a margin of 14%. This year, the Republican challenger is Mark Callahan.
